Just curious - are you feeding and watering in plastic bowls? If so, that is most likely what’s causing the acne-like symptoms.
What kinds of vitamins do you mean? Human vitamins are *not* for dogs - hope you aren’t trying to feed her those!!!
Please consult your vet. No healthy dog would let herself starve. What kind of dog food are you feeding her? Misa M

A puppy at this age needs a brand of puppy food that has vitamins and minerals. What type of dog food are you feeding her? You could probably try a chicken and rice formula, or even a lamb and rice formula. Without more information, I can’t go further than this.

As for the skin problem, it could be from her diet, or from her shampoo. It might even be fleas. Have her checked by a vet, or check her yourself. Firestorm

I have a Golden mix and she is the most allergy prone of the three dogs that I own. Because of that, I have her on a Venison and Rice blend that does not have wheat or corn. She is sensitive to chicken and to lamb which are the more common foods in most dog foods. About once a year, usually in the Spring, she has to have a cortisone shot. It took time to find the right diet for her and the right supplements. We give our dogs 3V Caps Skin Formulation (has Omega 3, Vit A, D and E) which we got from our Vet, and also NutriVed. Both of these are for skin and coat.
She is very sensitive to fleas and even one or two fleas on a dog can bite a lot and cause a reaction if the dog is allergic, so we have to keep on top of her flea prevention medication.
You might consider a dog food that is designed for dogs which are allergy prone. Wellness has a good blend- duck and sweet potato, and Nature’s Recipe has a Venison and Rice blend that has no corn or wheat added.
If you go to either diet recommended, make the change gradually to see how your dog tolerates it and because sudden changes can make a dog sick.
You could also consider a raw diet, but you have to keep on top of it, keeping a consistent balance of foods:
I really like the way the woman who has the above site describes how she feeds. I tried it with my three dogs and that was when their coats were the best ever! Even though I did not have to, I chose to grind their raw meaty bones before feeding them.
Their coats are great now, with their kibble and supplements. We are also very careful about the treats we give them and don’t give them doggie junk food, except for “Frosty Paws” doggie ice-cream. They just love it too much and get it about once a week.
Hope your pup will be better soon.
What dog food were you feeding her? Some brands have very hard kibble or lots of by-products, dyes, fillers and additives that dogs can be sensitive to if they are prone to food allergies. Jo

First of all, I like to address the acne.
1.Is it on the places where she usually gets dirt on? Labs love to dig and this can cause them to have acne form the dirt.
2.Medicine is not a miracle, it takes time. Has your vet done any skin scraps to see if there are skin mites ?
    Now for her diet.
It is perfectly all right to give her steamed chicken unless she is allergic to it. but when u are talking about biscuits . is it human or dog biscuits? You can also start to cook some pasta with the chicken and add veegetables and feed it to her. I am concerned that you actaully mentioned that your dog does not seem to be digesting her food. Do u see undigested food in her stools? ( This can be very serious)

In short, you should probably make a trip back to your vet and discuss the problems. Your vet will be able to help you with the diet and maybe run more tests on your dog.
    Good luck gigo

What did the vet prescribe?? This does sound like a staph infection.. Related to the immune system.. You need to keep feeding her good quality food, making sure you avoid wheat corn and fillers.. But you should get the vet to check to see if she has a staph infection and treat it properly. He’ll likely give you a shampoo to bath her in to help with the irritation.

What did the vet tell you the problem was?? ♥ DP ♥

Has she been treated for fleas? This could be the cause of her scratching all the time. Ask your Vet for Frontline or he may prescribe another flea preparation.Don’t buy over the counter medicines. These could make the puppy very sick.

Has she been wormed regularly since the age of two and a half weeks old? Ask your breeder this question. If the answer is no you need to get her wormed. Again you need to get something like Drontal Puppy Wormer from your Vet.
If she has a burden of worms this could account for her being so thin.

A puppy of this age needs at least three meals of good quality puppy food per day. You may need to soak it initially in warm water for her but she should at this age be able to eat the dry kibble and this is good for her teeth. You can try just putting a forkful of moist puppy food in with the dry to get her to start eating.

If her skin is dry try putting a teaspoonful of Evening Primrose Oil or Cod Liver Oil in her meal once a day. This will help considerably.

She may have an allergy to the type of food you are feeding.
Try and get her something which doesn’t contain lots of additives or preservatives. I have heard that Canidae is a very good food in the States.

What sort of medication did the Vet give her and for what?

I hope this helps you. The steamed chicken and rice is good but you really need to get her a balanced puppy food which will contain all the nutrients she needs for bone and growth.

Good luck with her. Pat B
