skin problems
itsme asked:

Well I have a white Bull Terrier pup and recently I found out they are prone to skin problems. My puppy is loosing hair in little spots all over his body. I am taking him to the vet tomorrow for a skin scraping to rule out mange, although I know it’s not mange.Because my other dog shows no symptoms. And puppy has bumps it comes with it so I’m pretty sure its an skin allergy.
So does anyone else have a Bull Terrier and have the same problems. And if so what was the treatment and is it expensive.
Any info would help-thanks
so I should change his diet. what is a good dog food that doesn’t have all that stuff in it.

I have seen this a couple of times in bullies including in my aunt’s dog. First make sure you bathe him regularly with a mild coconut based dog shampoo but no more than once every 10 days and always follow it up with a good conditioner.

Second, make sure he is on a good food. Humans have food allergies that start in the digestive track but for a dog usually the first sign is a skin problem. Find him a food with no corn, wheat, soy, by-products, powdered cellulose, BHA or BHT. This sounds difficult but it is getting easier now. PetCo has a large selection (PetSmat still has not caught up). If it is a food allergy it may take up to 6 weeks to see a difference as all the infected cells have to grow out and be replaced by new healthy cells. Good luck! Demodectic mange is not considered contagious so your puppy could have it and not pass it along to other dogs. All dogs have the mites on their bodies, but their immune system keeps the mites under control. If the dog endures any stress, the immune system weakens and the mites can begin to cause problems. I am glad that you plan to bring your dog to the vet tomorrow. Traci

They are prone to skin issues, but my bully doesn’t have any.

There are different types of mange and there is a type that the dog can be born with that is under the skin. Other dogs around wont get it, its a genetic type of mange.

What are you feeding the dog? Most bullies are allergic to wheat/corn and other fillers commonly found in store brand dog foods. I have my bullies on a grain free diet and they do well on it.

I wish you luck at the vet tomorrow and I hope its nothing serious.

ETA: I feed taste of the wild. It depends on what you are feeding and what it has in it and if that’s causing the issue with his skin or not. Rogue Bully Ignorance is upon us
