Our cat chews/licks his fur off. We’ve tried various cat foods and stay away from food with corn, wheat, soy. He is allergic to chicken. Just bought Blue Buffalo Limited Ingredient with turkey. He’s still munching on his legs. We’ve been to the dermatologist and have given him liquid medicine for “dust mites” and even switched to Feline Pine litter. We don’t know what else to do. I just read about Stimmune for cat allergies. Has anyone tried this product? Any other suggestions would be welcome. Thank you, everyone.

Suggestions for my cats skin problems?

I’ve had my cat for 3 and 1/2 years now (her whole life, she’s 3 and 1/2) and she’s never had any skin problems until recently. She licks her front arms until there is hardly any fur anymore. She also does this to her hind legs and a small part on her stomach, but minimally. Also, she’ll scratch the backs of her ears until there is no more fur, and occasionally small sores. I know it’s not mites or fleas, and I’m pretty positive it’s not a food allergy because she eats nothing but California Natural and EVO. (She’s a very spoiled little girl.) I’ve tried putting bitter apple on the spots to stop the licking, but to no avail.

I went to the pet store today and got the Avoderm Oatmeal shampoo for cats and dogs to see if it would improve anything. Also, a spray that is specially designed for allergic dermatitis in cats and dogs. If these things don’t work in two weeks or so, I’m going to take her to the vet, but I wanted to exercise all of my options before that.

I’m wondering if anyone else has had a problem similar to this and if so, what did you do so your cat (or dog even) would stop licking the fur away?

My cat licks and bites his back constantly and it causes him to have scabs. When they start to heal they must itch because he will bite and lick them, therefore they never have a chance to heal. I’ve tried to put neosporin on them and I’ve even bought special food and treats that are made for skin health. Still I have no luck. What should I do?

I have a female orange tabby, who every summer develops a red rash from her ears down to her eyes. Some hair loss, but mostly just red with black specks. She doesn’t seem to have any discomfort from it & doesn’t scratch it.
She is mostly indoors with access to an enclosure. The enclosure is covered with hummingbird vines with blossoms.
Could she be allergic to the blossoms. They do attract birds, insects, bees etc. Her skin problems are only in the summer. By fall it’s totally gone.

Autoimmune skin problems in cats?

Yayyyme asked:

My cat has an autoimmune skin disease. It has not been diagnosed, but I’d like to research some of them and possibly take as much of a hollistic approach as possible. In the past, she has been given steriod injections, but I am aware that this causes tumors, diabetes and various other problems. I have found some interesting articles, but none that are directly about the issue. Anyone know a good site that possibly breaks down the different types or if you know about it personally that would help too. Thanks =)
Again… looking to research the different types. So sources would be helpful. I’m aware it hasnt been diagnosed—i stated that in my question– what I want to do is research the different types, but i’m having trouble finding sites for it.

How to help a cat with sensitive skin?

My baby is about 4 years old and has always had problems with her allergies. She’s had runny eyes since I got her at one year old. I don’t think she was born a very healthy kitten because she is rather tiny as well.

Since we moved from a 9th floor condo to a house with a giant yard her skin has gotten 100 times worse. We did have a small flea outbreak but I keep them away with frontline once a month. But still the poor girl is scratching almost 50% of the time when she is awake. She has horrible scabs around her neck and around her tail and her back is incredibly sensitive to the touch.

I want to add that she is my only pet with this terrible problem. I hate to see my darling suffer, has anyone had any success with relieving skin problems? We feed her NutroMax dry food. I would like to try to stay away from shots at the vet and try to get to the root of the problem.
