Can you help with rabbits skin problem?
Hi can anyone help with my rabbits skin problem? It started off that he had whats like human dandruff . I treated it with a lotion for ticks and fleas but it only lasted 3 weeks and it came back.I repeated the treatment and it’s cleared again. Now he has a bald patch about 4 inches long and i saw him biting his side and think he is pulling his fur out by himself. He is about 8 months old,a dutch lop ear, happy and well cared for and lives in the house. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Thank you everyone, I took the rabbit to the vet and it is mites. He was prescribed zeno 450 2 pipplets were applied to the back of his neck and spine this is to be repeated twice more fortnightly. I would advise anyone with the similar problem to try and buy the pipplets over the counter if it’s possible as my vet earned £45.00 for a 2 minute cosultation!!! Thats a potential whopping £1350.00 an hour!!!
Male Rats? Skin problems?
Hi there!
I’m planning on getting three rats very soon. I’ve owned just about every little rodent you can possibly think of, but never a rat (I’m very excited about it too). I worked at PetSmart for few years and have heard many complaints about female rodents (according to research I’ve done, female rodents tend to have more of an attitude then males). Basically, I’ve never owned a male animal of any kind and I’m very excited about the thought of buying a male. My best friend has two females and is trying to discourage me from the thought because she says males pee a lot in order to mark their territory. She also says they have horrible skin problems. Does anybody know anything about this? I’m so disappointed. My heart is really set on three males.
Hedgie has skin problems. Need someone with experience to give me some advice?
I have a “rescued” hedgehog… I’ve had him since he was a baby, and he is not my first. I had a male, and a pregnant female (who had 5 healthy babies) about 10 years ago, and NEVER had a problem with any of them… including the babies!
Now I have a full grown male, he was ‘rescued’ from a flea market when he was a baby, and I have had alot of trouble with skin problems with him. His quills keep falling out, and it looks as if his ’scalp’ (for lack of a better word….) is very flakey and dry. There is only one vet in town that I know of that deals with exotics, and it is just about impossible for me to get there during their business hours with my work schedule. I have talked to several ‘hedgie pros’, and have tried all of their advice–such as changing diet, different litter, and oatmeal bath….. It just seems that this little guy is destined to have skin irritation! If anyone has any “new” ideas for me to try, please let me know!
Ok… I appreciate the help! I’m gettin alot of “mites” comments~~ this is a good possibility, but if he has mites, wouldn’t he get “infected” and only get worse if untreated? He’s done this a few times…. he’ll clear up, his quills will start to be normal, skin clear, and then after awhile, it starts over…. that’s why I thought it may be allergies (or something hedgie-similar…). Could this still be mites? Do they go away on there own, then come back a couple of months later? I’m a reptile person!! I know how to take care of parasites on snakes! Hedgies are a whole different story!! I do appreciate any EXPERIENCED help!
does anyone have a english bull terrier with skin problems?
hes the white dog you see on target adds~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~he has bully bumps all over his skin, and some are actually acne bumps. the vet doesnt know what it is, and we can keep spending thousands of dollars on vet bills. he will have to get put down if we cant find a solution. (his being put down will be to put him out of his misery of scratching and pill taking, not because of the bills.
My guinea pigs have a skin problem. What do you think it could be?
They scratch & bite their skin/fur, sometimes until the place starts bleeding. One of them lost all the fur on her back; the fur is starting to grow back now cuz we used some glucosteroid cream. They also have hardened scales? skin? around their eyes. So their eyes arent as bright & round as they used to be. Have your guinea pigs had this problem? Please help. Thanks.
I don’t want to spend the money on a vet, especially since their skin isn’t THAT bad (certainly not as bad as the ones in the pics from the links you provided). So is it possible to get any of these medications over the counter at the pet store or pharmacy? And how much do they cost?
Also, have any household treatments that’ve worked for you, or any that you can suggest? E.g. wash them with gasoline or something??
is my rabbit molting or does she have skin problems?
I woke up this morning to feed them and I saw this big bald spot on her head. I looked for signs of flaky or scaly skin or whatever and her skin looks fine (pinkish color). I did notice some very small white pimple like spots near her eyes (both eyes). She acts normal and doesn’t seem to know that she has a bald spot on her head. Eats, drinks, plays, etc. No runny nose too. Is she just molting or are there any skin problems causing this? thanks
