DERMACTON for dogs with skin problems?
ladybug asked:
Has anyone tried the cream or spray Dermacton for your dog with skin problems? I know you can only get it from the UK, of course the website says it really works, but I wanted to see if anyone has tried it for their fur babies. Also, what kind of shampoo do you use for your dog with skin allergies? I have tried all kinds like oatmeal and sulfadene and hypo-allergenic, but looking to see if there is something better out there. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to answer!

Have you bothered to have your dog ALLERGY tested, so you can stop using or feeding whatever he/she is allergic to? OR have you considered getting the dog desensitized? There are blood tests; one for allergies is called Liquid Gold (if your vet doesn’t know what to use). In many cases, the problem is food & is the grain or the cooked protein in kibble. So why not try an elimination diet, if you won’t do allergy testing? But trying to use a product (when you don’t know what the problem is) is like throwing pasta against the wall (& hoping something will stick). E. H. Amos
Why not try to find out why your dog has skin problems? The majority of skin problems are due to allergies of which food is number one. Check the ingredients in what you are feeding and see if corn, wheat, soy, or by-products are listed and if so find something to feed that does not contain these. Chicken can also be a problem. By changing the food to something that is a high quality, the skin problems may clear up, however if not, a thyroid test should be done with a full blood panel, not just T3 and T4 (you may have to argue with the vet about this, but it’s your dog). Here in the USA, a vet by the name of Dr. Jean Dodds has been doing a great deal of research on Hypothyroidism and has discovered many things that can lead to the diagnosis of the condition, including allergies and behavior problems. She recommends treating a low normal reading.
I’m not too fond of most of the so-called natural products because they don’t have to have any scientific lab studies to come on the market, but that’s just my personal feeling. Cookie
it could be caused by crap food , allergic to pollen , mites and or fleas , .new age tra
my dog got his skin problem after he got castrated . email me so we can talk some more about this , thanks .
as for shampoo ,my vet recommended for me to use baby shampoo, unmediated like Johnson’s baby shampoo.
in the words of the vet , it more than likely already been tested on dogs , it mild enough to not take the natural oils from the dogs skin
