Dog has skin problem. Areas on limbs where a coarse red hair has grown. Irritated under hair. What is it?
heavy929 asked:
My dog has something going on with her skin. Noticed areas on the limbs where coarse red hair was growning. Seems there are many red hairs growning in clusters. Shaved one of these areas and underneath, the skin seems to be irritated. Have seen no itching or biting of the area, just the red hairs there. When you run your had over it, it feels prickly. These areas only appear on the arms and legs, in multiple areas. Checked on the internet and seen nothing similar to this. Does anyone know what is going on?

She might have a skin infection. Maybe, MAYBE she has been biting or scratching a little but you haven’t seen it. Take her to the vet ASAP. envo_girl
Could be a number of things- allergies, infection (like staph) and any number of other things
Take her into the vet. Likely it is a problem that is easily treated with medicines or diet Starsfan14
Mites, and more exclusively, mange mites, can cause this on your dog. I have had it happen to mine. The mites go up to a hair follicle and bury themselves under it. Using the follicle shaft to go just under the skin, and out of reach for you dogs nails to scratch. This really sucks for the dog. But the mites cause the hair to fall out, and when it regrows it is stubbly, coarse, and not very healthy. Your vet would recommend using some steroids to treat the itching and hair loss first. But a series of dippings would kill the mites. Or, if you are familiar with CapStar, they will work for you also. If the dog looks like it is irriating him, get some Cortizone cream and apply it to the affected area. Matt B
Mange can pop up on the legs and feet.
I would get to a Vet and ask.
Does it look a little like this?
No one on the Internet can diagnose your dog, so get to a Vet when you can. ♥My Pit Bull is cuter than yers♥
