Has your baby’s skin ever had this problem?
HanGirl asked:
I have a 2 month old, and he has dry, rough skin around the outside of his elbows and going up into his upper arm, as well as around the sides of his knees and around that area. These patches are a little red.

I just assumed it was caused by him laying down a lot, and those parts of his body were just the spots that constantly got rubbed by whatever fabric he lays on.
Did your baby have this problem? Do you think it could be a skin problem that needs to be checked out? I may call the doctor tomorrow and make an appointment.

try rubbing your baby down with olive oil or peanut oil if you don’t have any then any cooking oil is good. Could be eczema but it is hard to tell im not a doctor but my boys suffer from it. manaakitanga
sounds like eczema, which both my kids suffer from. i would just ask the doctor about it. our doctor gave them some cream that helps clear up any flare ups they get, but the colder weather kinda makes it a bit worse. Just Me
Both of my girls have had that problem before though both of theirs started on their head, there are certain ways to treat it and certain ways not to! Be very careful, only your ped. can tell u exactly what would work best. For my older daughter she had to have a steroid rub, but for babies its not best, it is a type of eczema or psoriasis. The type that starts on the head looks like cradle cap, but when treated like cradle cap it gets worse so try to use little moisture like lotion or oils… (seborrhic dermatitis, check spelling) it then moves down to the limbs, where it is on my oldest now. It is actually cleared up on my infant now. In order to keep it from getting bad or irritated you have to keep the baby away from LOTS of irritants. Make sure that every thing he wears or lays on is washed in perfume free wash soap (All free and clear usually works best) and the best thing that I have been able to use on the skin is Aveeno lotion with oatmeal and lavender for babies and says something on it about help healing.. but the best thing all other mothers will say is aquaphor which is just as good if not better. And the type that your baby has may not be the exact same as my girls but can still be treated the same.. oh and another thing that i found out is when u soak it (weather its on his head, butt, legs, arms, wherever) it sometimes gets worse, I guess thats because the skin is loosing its moisture when it dries..and it may be a little cold now but sometimes a little sun helps.. just dont let his skin get dry! ausnlauren
