kt_michelle87 asked:
i have a 2 year old black lab that stays outside. she is usually the most beautiful dog. about a week ago she started itching really bad and licking her skin where its itching her. she has scratched the fur off in some places on her back and close to her tail. sometimes she’ll scratch until it bleeds! what is it and what can i do for her?

Give her a tablespoon of cod liver oil or coconut oil daily. Both are also very good for humans, by the way. You will both also benefit from a spoonful of vitamin B complex. Some of the ingredients in the food formula you are giving him could have changed in the past 10 years, so do not take it for granted that it is still the same. Just for safety’s sake, take him to a vet to check if he has not picked up demodectic mange. pupdog10
i know a dog that has this. he keeps licking his paws because they itch and now he has no skin. so she took him to the vet and gave him some medicine. he stills does it i think its just dry skin. nothing too serious though. next time you see her itching herself just distract her. juicyfruit034
You can:
A) Bring her INSIDE
B) Take her to the Vet ♥Pit Bull♥
First check with your vet to make sure is not something that needs to be treated with medicine.
If it is just allergies or something similar you could try Blue Buffalo dog food. We switched my black lab mix to it and her skin improved dramatically within a few weeks. We use the Fish and Sweet Potatoe variety. It is loaded with Omega 3 fatty acids.

Spring has sprung!!!! #1 Check her for fleas…. put her on frontline or another flea treatment “not the generic stuff its a waste of money and is potentially lethal” and get her to a Vet. Rhonda C
When humans have allergies, we often sneeze and cough. We can have rashes, bumps, and swelling as well.
Dogs usually show their allergies through their skin. It will become itchy and irritating. This can be caused by many things; airborne allergies such as dust, pollen, and mold, physical allergies, or even food allergies.
You can take your dog to the vet and have the vet give him a shot or medicine for this. This is only temporary and needs to be continuous for the dog’s reactions to stay away. This acts like benedril or other hystamine blocker. You could go one step further and have your dog tested for allergies. This costs a pretty penny, but will give you peace of mind. Once you know what your dog is allergic to, you just avoid it.
As for temporary fixes, there are products availible at pet stores that stop dogs from biting their paws/legs/etc. and helps stop the itching. There is a product I know of called Allercain that both stops the dog from biting and itching and ALSO helps heal any open abrasions.
Hope this helps and good luck!
