Give her an oatmeal bath, and a benadryl.
try getting an oatmeal based shampoo for her that should help her
My vet gave me iodine shampoo for my dog. He has dry, itchy skin. The shampoo doesn’t stain and doesn’t smell that bad. It does cost almost $20.
Did your vet give you anything for the itching? If she doesn’t quit scratching, the infection won’t heal. You can try benedryl at 1mg per pound (a 25 lb dog would get 25 mg). This is very safe to do every 12 hours. Might make him a bit tired. But if he is very itchy, it might not help much. It’s hard to rub ointments on furry dogs….it makes a mess and they usually lick it off. You can bathe him in a gentle soap free oatmeal shampoo with cool water…that might be soothing.
Sulfodene. by hartz is good. But smells bad.
The antibiotics should kick in fairly soon. I wouldn’t put anything on the sore, itchy areas as the nerve endings are already irritated and you don’t want to complicate that and make it worse.
rub her with butter all over except for the bottom of her feet, and rub it in and leave it overnight, then wash it off the next day
ok dont think i am trying to kill your dog or anything but my dog had like mange and his skin itched all the time and on top of medication in the area that was messed up we would put pine sol and then wash it off after scrubing it in not hard though and it kills the bacteria belive it or not i thought it was crazy to but all his fur is back now and it doesnt itch any more be care full though ot to leave it in it will mess up there skin
You must have taken your dog to the vet if you are using antibiotics. The vet may have given the dog a shot to ease itching. There is a product for “hot spots.” You can find it at Walmart or other stores. This may help.
my puppy had the same problem…..he actually bit his hair down to the skin. When i took him to the vet, they gave him a shot of Cortizon, and that numbed him for two weeks, which gave me time to put more oils in his food, and put lotion on him to hydrate the skin. I also bathed him with a medicated shampoo, and this helped alot. Now about 1 month later, he doesnt scratch as much as he used to , now he itches like a normal dog. GOOD LUCK!!!!
You dog probably has allergies! Another may be a nervous condition and has now turned into a habit, as my dachshund did.
Yes, he does have allergies I have to be careful with shampoo, flea stuff, etc.
I use aloe Vera in the morning and anti-itch clear calamine in the night.
Also to rid the habit, when I see him I just tap his neck and say no, he is finally finally breaking the habit….
Still the bit of itchy but not so much…
best and fastest thing i just had to do and the results are amazing. change the food to NUTRO’ LAMB AND RICE wow . it has linatone in it for skin and coat. my dog now wow. and she too went on antibiotic for the same thing. stop all chicken based dog food. they use (by products of chicken) are:the head, beak,feet, neck, skin,feathers!, every thing we dont eat and nothing we do eat. no wonder our dogs are sick! my dogs have never been better. causes less poop too. and they are putting on a healthy weight too.
A bath of oatmeal or epsom salt but dont get the salt in the eyes.
Try A & D ointment. You’ll find it in the baby section in any drug store.
Aveeno oatmeal baths. My weimaraner has very, very dry skin, especially on her stomach where she has little to no hair. Since it’s summer and she goes into the woods, she’s had multiple rashes from different weeds, etc.. I use the Aveeno on her and it really clears her up. Also, a very, very thin layer of olive oil rubbed on the really dry areas helps too. I use benadryl,( VET ok’d) when she is really bad. Good Luck! I hate when they’re uncomfortable, especially in this heat.
