Zoe asked:

I’ve had him for five years now. It’s only happened the once and he has shed a few times with the eye problem but it doesn’t go. He hasn’t eaten but he isn’t snappy or anything like that. I was told that there is a product that can help to take it off and it is not for reptiles but you can get it in boots or a chemist or something like that. We were told this by a reptile shop owner. Anybody have any ideas??

no there isnt but just try this ,dampen the eye with warm water untill its soaked right through be very care
ful, do it gently then if you can see an edge of loose skin around the eye use your tweezers to gently lift the eye skin of, if its not removed your snake will not feed properly .if you arent sure you will have to take it to the vets but thats costly, make sure it dosent happen again by putting the water container over the heat source that way your viv will have the right humidity for your snake to shed properly hope this helps JAMES R

We have snakes too and my husband uses a small strip of sticky tape. He sticks it over the eye and then gently pulls it off. May need to be repeated if it all does not come off at once. Good luck. jntt_bnks

    NO TAPE OMG

Really do not tyr to remove it yourself as you can really injure him. What you have to do it soak him, allow him to remain in the water but you make sure his eye gets dampened.
You can use cotton balls but the concern there is that a piece of the cotton gets stuck, you cant see it and it causes irritation or scratches the eye.

sometimes the eye shed takes a little longer than the body shed. you can try aloe as it is natural, a softning agent and should help

he should not even be offered food until the shed is complete as he will nt be able to see it and can get bit trying to get the food. make sure eyes are clear before you ever offer food. j m

My Ball Python had the same problum. Try Soaking him in warmish water for about 15 mins. Then take a Q-Tip with baby oil on it and rub it over his eye. Make use you rise it off after about 30 seconds. I hope this helps! :) Mandii

The best thing is mineral oil applied gently with a q-tip. You can find mineral oil at most pharmacies and department stores. There is no need to worry about rinsing it off as you would with baby oil (it is mineral oil, but as added chemical and fragrances). This can be done daily( or twice) until they come off, which is usually only days. Even if longer this can be safely done though the next shed. chris b aka minguss

OK, i’ll be honest, most of the other answers come from experienced reptile keepers, who know what they are doing. The answer including tape is very silly though.
DON’T use tweezers or try to pull it off in any way until you are shown how by an experienced keeper or your vet. You could blind your snake in that eye.
The only thing that you can do is place it in a damp cotton sack (e.g. pillowcase) overnight, in a temperature controlled area, like in the middle of its vivarium with thermostats. If this doesn’t work, you’ll have to take it to an experienced reptile vet or keeper, who may teach you how to do it in the future.

Good luck, and hope it helps science geek
