Red eared slider turtle skin problem?

My turtle is about 8 years old, he has been completely healthy up untill a few days ago when i notced he had a red spot on his skin. When i loked closer, he has developed a few of them recently. The spots are mostly red, but there are a few that are brown with red around them. When he is dry(out of the water), the brown spots are like leather compaired to his skin. Does anybody know what could be wrong with him? Oh, and when he is baskng in his light, he frequently rubs his legs or arms up against his shell, like hes trying to itch himself.

it could be a disease from the water like a fungal infection, or it could be septicemia. see for yourself, and compare: It is kind of difficult to determine what it is and treat it yourself. A vet is really recommended in this situation. better safe than sorry. Veronika S.

Septicemia is a serious, life-threatening infection that gets worse very quickly. It can arise from infections throughout the body, including infections in the lungs, abdomen, and urinary tract.

This sounds like it is time for your turtle to take a trip to a vet that specializes with reptiles. I would also recommend cleaning of your turtles tank and putting your turtle in a luke warm bath while your are looking up a vet. these kinds of health problems are extremely hard to treat on your own. the best of luck to you Paul B
