Skin on face and dandruff problems? Please help?

Brett S asked:

I’ve had dandruff and weird skin problems since I was 14, now I’m 18. Every morning I wake up, and my face is covered with dry skin, mostly near the eyebrows. Also, whenever I rub my face, the skin comes off and looks like dirt (but I wash it all the time, so it can’t be dirt). Most other places on my body, my skin is fine. I can wipe off the noticeable stuff from my face in the morning so that it is not a big deal. It’s the flakes in my hair that bother me. My scalp under my hair (I’m a boy) looks kind of like my forehead when I wake up in the morning, but even if I wash my hair and scrub hard, the flakes don’t go away, and they fall out throughout the day giving my gross white crumbs in my hair.

I’ve tried Head and Shoulders, Coal Tar, Nizoral, Baby Shampoo, Jason’s All Natural Shampoo, Tea Tree Oil, Apple Cider Vinegar, Baking Soda, T Gel… I’ve went through an entire bottle of all these and no relief! I’ve tried washing my hair more, less, not at all, with a little or a lot of shampoo, with only conditioner, and with cold water. I’ve tried not drinking milk and I’ve tried drinking a gallon of liquid every day. My diet is fairly healthy and I don’t consume too much sugar or fat.

What can I do?
Oh yeah, I also tried HydroCortisone on my face with no luck. I don’t think it’s eczema because my skin isn’t really irritated. However, my scalp itches a lot, especially when I sweat. I think I probably have seborrheic dermatitis, but the question is how do I get the flaking to go away or at least lessen? I’m desperate, as you can see.

You have the right diagnosis. Dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis though it could be psoriasis. You have given it a good trial. It’s time to see the dermatologist for more aggressive treatment. There are good options available.

It doesn’t sound like you tried salicylic acid. Try the liquid applied to the scalp at night with a little mineral or vegetable oil. Can use ordinary shampoo or salicylic acid shampoo to remove the scale in the morning. curator
