have really bad skin problems can you help?
I have acne but this has improved since I cut out dairy. However I have this reoccuring problem where I will use a product and then it will after about three months get really oily like all the oil is coming out of my skin and then get really dry so I can barely smile and then small spots get trapped under the skin it takes about two months to go and I have to wah my face in salty water. I use an exfoliating cloth is this making it worse. I think I might to allergic to essnetial oil. What do people recommend I do not like chemical products I always but natural products. Do I have a skin infection should I go to the doctor?

This site has a message board for holistic (natural) acne treatments:

You may be able to get a better answer there. I’ve found great info there.

If you’ve never seen a dermatologist, it’s a good idea to see one. From my experience, they usually try to give you a prescription for an acne medication and are less likely to encourage natural treatments, because they don’t make money from natural treatments. However, a dermatologist may be able to tell you what’s going on with your skin, and then you can decide what to do from there.

    Good luck! Extra “e”

The most important thing to try is to change your environment to prevent acne.

    1. Wash your hands regularly and avoid touching your face.

    2. Wash your face morning and night with a more natural face wash. I suggest Aveeno’s series of facial soap bars or St Ives Apricot scrub. DO NOT USE HOT WATER TO WASH YOUR FACE. Hot water dries out your skin, instead use luke warm water.

    3. Wash your bedsheets and pillowcases atleast once a week.

    4. Drink lots of water. Try to get regular exercise and/or use a sauna or steam bath. The water and the sweating help to keep your pores clear, making them harder to clog and break out. mattyboymma

I think it would be wise of you to go to the doctor, yes.

I’m not a dermatologist, but do skincare in my industry as a stylist.

An exfoliating cloth actually is a bad idea. Basically if you have acne prone skin, you have lots of small infections going on. When you exfoliate, the abrasiveness will hinder the healing process and spread infection around your face (like scratching poison ivy).

The mention of essential oil is unusual. You may be allergic to some…but really you could be allergic to any artificial scent just as easily. Plant derived ingredients can still be highly allergenic, especially the ones that stimulate the skin like peppermint, camphor, and menthol…I wouldn’t use anything with much oil at all on acne prone skin. Watch out for sunscreen, too…it’s got lots of oil and wax-make sure you find an oil-free one if your face won’t be immersed in water.

The products that you are using may be stripping your skin. The first thing the skin will do is try to replace the oil it’s lost…so your face will get oily. It’s not ridding itself of oil, it’s creating more. After a time because you are treating it harshly repeatedly, it dries excessively as well. It’s creating a protective crust if you will against the abrasion…like a scab.

It took me a long time to figure out how to treat my skin when I was young. I had cystic acne…you know the kind under the skin that just hurts and doesn’t come to the surface.

There are great skincare products out there. I would recommend Murad or Clinique if you can afford them. If not, and you have medical insurance-go see your family doctor and a dermatologist of you can. There are medicines out there that can help. Hoorayforthat
