You really do need to take him to the vet. Perhaps you can arrange a payment plan with your vet? Many vets do this. Holly

Changing food will only help if it is a skin allergy. You should try a good brand of alternate protein food, like lamb or fish or venison. Don’t switch him all at once, mix the two foods together for a few days, (the new and the old). Make sure you make an appt. with your vet! Good luck :) Jaime

Your dog may have fleas if he’s scratching or if you think its an irritation try Bag balm, it worked wonders for my dog, most pet shops carry it.
Short hair dogs are more prone to skin condition so its great that your looking for healthy alternatives.
One capsule of cod liver oil, or evening primrose oil a day may also help, it has necessary fatty acids dogs don’t always get in their diet. The best part is dogs actually like the stuff. its good for the coat and immune system. Another good one is cheese, its great for their coat. Make sure its decent cheese, like cheddar or Mozzarella and give a tiny piece as a treat when you dog obeys a command.
All of these are under 15$ and easily accessible.
    Good Luck! Julia

It depends on the skin problem. you can try Nutro dog food as it could help and there are no negative impacts from the food. Kel

Lamb and rice should work but you can also add a supplement called “granular Kelp with garlic” it is made by “Kelp Products of Florida” but you may be able to find it or something like it from a breeder who also sells dog food. I have a red pit and she HAD really bad skin and within 3 weeks she has a beautiful coat and doesn’t itch like she used to. . . the food should be a good quality and this cant be found at the grocery store! If you have a vet you see regularly, generally they’ll be willing to work things out with you payment wise.

Generally, food allergies are caused by foods with Chicken, or Beef in them, or a cheap food with odd preservatives. Sometimes, it’s the grains them use. Lamb based foods, and fish foods usually are fine to feed to a dog with food allergies.

If I ever get a dog with food allergies again, I’d like to try them on this food: Because it’s grain free, so there goes that possible problem, plus it’s a fish based food. Ehawlz

My red nose has skin and flea allergies. My sister suggested fish oil capsules, and they seem to work good. Also try bathing your dog in a mixture of liquid antibacterial soap and vinegar(I know vinegar stinks but it really helps).good luck. Jennifer
